We are looking to hire a Manager of Corporate Accounting.  This position reports to Group 1's Assistant Controller and is the direct supervisor of a Corporate Accounting senior and the two Corporate Accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of annual budget for Group 1’s corporate entities;
  • Monthly financial statement close procedures for Group 1’s corporate entities.  The monthly close encompasses:
    • the preparation or review of various analytical procedures, including budget-to-actual analysis; and
    • the preparation and/or review of reconciliations for various general ledger accounts;
  • General ledger accounting, including:
    • posting and/or review of routine and non-routine journal entries;
    • responsibility for the accounting for Group 1’s self-insured medical plan and property and casualty insurance programs;
    • recognition and analysis of corporate finance and insurance income;
    • routine processing, coding, posting and reviewing of third-party invoices; and
    • posting of intercompany transactions with Group 1’s wholly-owned subsidiaries;
  • Maintenance of internal control procedures;
  • Ownership of Group 1’s general ledger system for all corporate entities;
  • Various projects;
  • Supervision and management of corporate accounting staff; and
  • Coordination with external and internal auditors with regards to review and audit procedures.

Qualifications

  • A team-first oriented employee;

  • Process oriented, with an emphasis on efficiency and internal controls; 
  • A leader by example;
  • An effective communicator, including the use of both verbal and written forms of communication, able to interact with various groups within the organization of communication, able to interact with various groups within the organization (i.e., Tax, Legal, Treasury, Investor Relations, etc.); and 
  • Willing and able to work the necessary hours to accomplish all responsibilities, especially during month and quarter-end close process, within a specific, defined timeline.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, or a Finance degree with an accounting emphasis;
  • Six to eight years of relevant experience in accounting at a large, multi-location corporation and/or public accounting firm;
  • A firm understanding of accounting principles;
  • Experience effectively managing and developing staff-level accountants;
  • Proficiency handling multiple, simultaneous projects;
  • An intermediate to advanced working knowledge of general ledger software package (plus if Microsoft Dynamics, or Navision);
  • An intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft software products, particularly Excel and v-lookups; and
  • A working knowledge of Hyperion Financial Management and other Hyperion software products.
