Overview

We are seeking a Senior Payroll Business Analyst to lead and deliver complex, large-scale payroll initiatives across the organization. The Senior Payroll Business Analyst will collaborate closely with and complement the existing Payroll Analyst by adding senior-level project leadership, structure, and governance to payroll operations.

The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of project management rigor, payroll domain knowledge, and cross-functional communication skills, and is comfortable operating at both strategic and execution levels. This role will manage multiple concurrent payroll projects, partner closely with stakeholders, Payroll, HR Shared Services (HRSS), IT, and external vendors, and serve as a key escalation point to ensure successful outcomes.

This is a high-impact opportunity to bring senior-level project leadership to Group 1 Automotive’s Payroll Services department as it continues to grow in scale and complexity. The role offers strong visibility, clear ownership, and the ability to shape how payroll projects are delivered across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver multiple concurrent payroll initiatives, including process improvements, system enhancements, and vendor-led projects.
  • Own project planning, timelines, governance, risk management, and delivery metrics across payroll initiatives at various stages.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between Payroll Services, IT, HR Shared Services Partners, Finance, and external vendors, ensuring alignment and clear communication.
  • Drive accountability across stakeholders, proactively manage risks, and resolve escalations at multiple organizational levels.
  • Facilitate project meetings, status reporting, and leadership-level communications to ensure transparency and expectation management.
  • Translate technical and system-related information into clear, actionable guidance for non-technical audiences.
  • Partner with Payroll leadership to develop and document standardized processes, controls, and operating procedures.
  • Bring structure, consistency, and discipline to how payroll projects are scoped, managed, and delivered.
  • Support payroll initiatives involving enterprise payroll systems, including Workday-related projects and integrations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Payroll Analyst to ensure effective system execution, continuity, and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading complex payroll projects in a corporate or enterprise environment.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage escalations, make informed decisions, and drive accountability.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate technical concepts for varied audiences.
  • Background in payroll transformation, system implementation, or process standardization efforts.
  • Familiarity with Workday Payroll or OneSource Virtual (OSV) is a bonus.
  • Project management certifications are considered nice to have, (PMP, PMI-ACP, PgMP, etc.)
